The American Society for Quality (ASQ) Automotive Division awarded the Quality Professional of the Year Award to Chad Kymal, CEO of Omnex, Inc. on June 14, 2005 at the Henry Ford Estate in Dearborn, Michigan. The Quality professional of the year award has been established to recognize individuals in the automotive industry who have made a significant contribution in the following areas:
1. Leadership or managerial skills in implementing continuous improvement in quality.
2. Services provided to the community towards furthering the understanding of quality systems and techniques.
3. Support and encouragement of the new and innovative ideas leading to never ending pursuit of excellence.
4. Demonstrated high regard for team benefits and results.

About the Award Winner
Chad Kymal was born in Kerala, India. At the age of 14 he moved to the USA and completed his high school, college and higher studies. He started his career in the US with General Motors and subsequently honed his management consulting skills at KPMG Peat Marwick. After his successes in consulting, Chad opened his own firm, Omnex Inc., in 1985. Omnex is a business management solution provider to semiconductor, high technology, automotive, manufacturing, and service industries. He led the Omnex team that helped Ford Motor Co. rewrite the QOS methodology. He helped write the ISO/TS 16949 Semiconductor supplement requirements and was part of the first worldwide witness audit for QS-9000. Omnex provides more than 50 training courses in subject areas ranging from APQP to Six Sigma and has offices worldwide.
In the mid 1980?s, Mr. Kymal developed an APQP (New Product Development) software called AQuA. Today, this industry grosses over $500 million in sales. Kymal, says ?It is too bad I did not know enough to take a patent out on that software?. AQuA formed the basis for a new company formed by Kymal, called Omnex Systems. Kymal and Omnex Systems have recently designed, created and patented a totally new concept in quality management called the Enterprise-wide Quality Management System (EwQMS?). He says that this suite of software promises to fundamentally change the ?Quality Software? market.
Now, as one of the largest quality management systems and improvement based organizations in the world, Omnex Inc and Omnex Systems have over 400 employees, and offices worldwide. In India, the Omnex office has continued to be very successful. Omnex India moved to Chennai to support Ford Motor Company in its joint venture with Mahendra. Subsequently Omnex India has consulted over Tata Motors? Indica launch, the Suzuki-Maruti joint venture and has consulted with most of the leading automotive OEMs and automotive ancillaries.
In 1994, Chad Kymal founded AQSR, an ISO Certification registrar initially focused on the automotive industry. Today, AQSR is one of the world leaders in ISO Certification for Automotive, Service, Aerospace, Telecommunications, Semiconductor, and other industries.
Chad Kymal still works in the field as an international trainer and consultant whose broad experience includes TQM, setup reduction, technology assessment and inventory analysis, statistical process control, and quality function deployment. He has served on the Malcolm Baldrige Board of Examiners and is a RABQSA-certified lead auditor. He has a bachelor?s degree in mechanical engineering from General Motors Institute, a master?s degree in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan, and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
