Press Release:

www.HomelandDefenseStocks.com (HDS) and www.BorderandPortSecurity.com (BPS), global investor and industry news portals for the homeland defense and security sector, present a recent column by James Smith, defense sector correspondent, focusing on controversy related to the US$6.8 billion sale of the UK's Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co (P&O) to Dubai-based sovereign-backed DP World. Senator Hillary Clinton of New York and Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey plan to introduce legislation aimed at preventing companies that are either owned or controlled by foreign government from being able to purchase port operations in the United States in an attempt to block DP World from buying P&O, due to security concerns.

Smith reports that, “It is unlikely that the UK would turn a deaf ear to security concerns related to the P&O sale -- if there are any tangible security concerns.” James Smith is a regular on-air television personality on the BBC, MSNBC, and CNN, discussing investment opportunities and financial activity within the defense, aerospace, and naval sectors and is the author of the HomelandDefenseStocks.com Defense Market Report.

“UK Port Deal Has US Security Overtones”
By James Smith, www.HomelandDefenseStocks.com, www.BorderandPortSecurity.com
February 2006

The US has made no secret over its concern that terrorist activities could be launched against the US through US seaports. DP World will now have operations in the US ports of New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia. The Bush administration has not raised objections to the deal as it considers the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to be an ally in the fight against terrorism. Leading the charge against the deal is New York's Senator Charles Schumer, a Democrat, who has questioned the prudence of giving a UAE company access to US ports.
