Scott Robinson designs, Inc. was started in February, 2005 by artist LaShonda Scott Robinson. LaShonda works as a graphic artist. However, painting is a passion she has loved since childhood. When family and friends inquired about buying LaShonda’s artwork, she created SCOTT ROBINSON designs, Inc. as a venue to sale open and limited edition prints of her watercolor paintings.
“My artwork is unique” states LaShonda. “I am self taught and my watercolor technique is deep and rich. My paintings appeal to blacks who are empowered by their ethnicity and struggles. Being that I am also a part of this demographic, I can personally relate to this segment of the population.”
LaShonda believes today’s blacks are strong, confident and sexy. She believes blacks feel empowered by their ethnicity. “We are proud of our heritage” states LaShonda. “My artwork depicts this slice of urban black life; strong black people managing careers, family, and relationships. Being a married black woman with a career and a young son, I know the struggles we face today. I paint our fears, pains, and passions with integrity.”
Today’s blacks are crossing boundaries many of our forefathers were unable to cross. Through her art, LaShonda hopes to inspire other blacks to continue to tell our stories in our own words. “It is our responsibility as black people to tell our stories and to take control of our image. When we are true to ourselves, it is then that we connect with others. I paint what I feel and feelings are universal. People can relate to my paintings because everyone has experienced pain, love, hurt, happiness, etc. Emotion is the unifying thread that connects us to one another” says LaShonda. “As a result, I hope my paintings are captivating and the stories behind them are inspiring. They are definitely a conversation piece. Each painting has a story and a soul.”
