GuardianBox is a range of physical network devices, priced from £325 ex VAT that connect either a single computer or a network of up to 100 computers to any broadband Internet service providing constant protection against on-line threats such as viruses, spam and unauthorised access by hackers. Monthly site subscriptions, from £16.95 for up to 25 users, cover automatic hourly updates for spam and virus filters and unlimited direct end-user support.
"As on-line threats have multiplied so has the complexity of providing safe and secure computers at both work and home, Spyware in particular needs careful managing, yet people still assume virus protection covers all types of threats." comments Keith Fergie, General Manager of GuardianBox. "We've both removed that complexity from the computer user and addressed key security and management issues for non-technical users."
Now access to websites can be readily controlled and emails warning of attempts to access p**nographic sites sent. Where Internet access is shared between several computers the GuardianBox's ability to manage traffic will significantly improve performance of emerging technologies such as VoIP telephone calls.
Using separate hardware for protection also means the performance of computers is unaffected by virus scans. "It's very tempting to stop a virus scan if it's slowing you down in the middle of working, which can cause big problems," continues Fergie.
"It's also important to stress is that there are limits for broadband. Where a single connection is shared performance does become an issue and that's also addressed by GuardianBox. From identity theft and computer viruses to providing a safe and productive working environment, all these on-line issues can now be tackled by a single solution," concludes Fergie.
Technical overview
Hardened Firewall : more secure than software firewalls on PCs also improves performance. Allows Windows, Mac and Linux networks to share network connections more effectively. Operates with satellite, ADSL and cable broadband services.
Router : Controls data flow over the Internet connection, supporting faster access and improved bandwidth through its web cache.
Web cache : allows regularly viewed Internet to be stored locally, removing the need for repeated downloading.
DHCP Server : Effectively allows devices to be connected to the Internet on customer's networks without needing data such as the IP address configuration.
Pop3 Spam filter : All incoming emails are scanned, those appearing to be Spam are flagged accordingly and p**nographic content removed. Individual email addresses and domains selected by the user can be given preferential treatment (using a 'white' list) through the filter.
Pop3 double anti-virus filter : two separate virus scanners operate on all incoming emails. Infected files are automatically deleted before they get to the user?s network and the user informed. Each GuardianBox checks for new updates every 16 minutes and downloads them accordingly.
Support and Management portal : A dedicated, secure portal that gives GuardianBox owners complete visibility and control over their broadband connection. From web usage statistics to control over management functions
Content filter : blocks access to specific sites, restricts access for some computers, blocks specific file downloads (such as peer to peer), blocks p**nography.
Advert Deletion Filter : eliminates pop-up banner ads and any associated data transmission from similar intrusive Internet content.
SMTP relay : provides better email management, guarantees outbound emails are sent in the event of any intermittent problems with broadband connections.
Upload traffic shaping "Allows users to optimise Internet traffic, this feature creates a better environment to use VoIP or where large downloads of information can disrupt Internet access."
Spyware locator : Rapidly identifies machines infected with Spyware for easier removal.
Peer to Peer Blocker : Allows network managers to stop illegal file downloads and transfers at work.
