Press Release:

Think a vacation can’t be fun and educational at the same time? Think again! Island Adventures®, the award-winning activities program at Wild Dunes Resort, an island resort located near Charleston, S.C. – operated by Destination Hotels and Resorts – offers a popular trend in vacations: educational, family-friendly activities with something for everyone.

Ranked in Tennis magazine’s Top 10 children’s programs, Island Adventures provides a wide array of activities that showcase and explore the unique natural environment only found in the Lowcountry. Whether a kid learns about marine biology in the Barrier Island Marine Bio-Camp, an entire family experiences an Eco-Tour, a teenager navigates the Teen Kayaking Challenge, or an adult just wants to feel like a kid again by playing Capture the Flag, Island Adventures programs go beyond the typical beach vacation, simultaneously teaching while satisfying the adventurous spirit in us all.

Keeping with the Island Adventures theme of something for everyone, Wild Dunes also offers a variety of lodging options — from the AAA Four Diamond-rated Boardwalk Inn, to Boardwalk Homes alongside oceanfront pools and pristine beaches, to comfortable family-friendly villas and luxury homes. Plus, stays at any of our accommodations include exclusive access to amenities and services resort-wide.

Examples of educational Island Adventures eco-tours include (plus many more!):

Barrier Island Marine Bio-Camp
Have fun while learning about marine biology. Wild Dunes takes you to a barrier island where you see, touch and learn about interesting creatures living along our shores. Activities include pulling a seine net, throwing a cast net, crabbing, fishing, exploring the maritime forest, catching animals to put in our touch-tanks, making arts and crafts, collecting shells and other fun activities.

Capers Island Wildlife Exploration
Venture with naturalists to Capers Island, the closest undeveloped barrier island to Charleston for an otherworldly experience. After a short boat trip through dolphin-filled waters, guests can explore Capers' pristine beaches and lively interior freshwater ponds. It's a beachcomber's and birder watcher's paradise, and even the staunchest city slicker will be inspired.

Coastal Kayaking Adventure
There's nothing quite like forgetting you're a biped, and paddling quietly at eye-level with dolphins and other creatures of the sea. This leisurely adventure goes through some of the most pristine tidal estuaries in North America. This ecosystem is rich with history, geology and wildlife. Traveling through winding tidal creeks, guests will see the natural habitat of dolphins, otters, herons, egrets, osprey, and the occasional loggerhead sea turtle and manatee.

Creek Fishing
Wild Dunes guides guests through cherished secret fishing holes in the nearby salt marshes. Wild Dunes provides the light tackle, and Mother Nature supplies the bites.

Dolphin and Sea Turtle Sunset Cruise
Experience one of the most breathtaking sights in the Lowcountry - sunset over the marshes! Bottlenose dolphins are a common resident of our salt marshes and inlets behind barrier islands. As guests observe the dolphins feeding, playing or simply cruising around in their native environment they will learn all about their social behavior, feeding habits and much more.

Sailing
Experience the Lowcountry from one of two beautiful sailboats, the 50' Columbia Sloop Serena or the Palmetto Breeze, the recently launched sailing catamaran with 1700 square feet of deck space.
