Press Release:

Worldwide shipments of new cell phones are expected to exceed 900 million units in 2006. Analysts and Vendors say this year’s sales will better last years record by at least 14%. But experts worry that all those new phones could lead to environmental problems as people discard their old cell phones.

Old phones can cause environmental problems if they are simply discarded in landfills. Fortunately, there is a solution, according to James Mosieur, chief executive officer of RMS Communications Group Inc., a company that pays cash for old cell phones through http://www.CellForCash.com and other websites.

“Old cell phones are certainly a potential environmental problem – they contain metals and other compounds that threaten the environment,” he said. “But a good alternative is to visit www.CellForCash.com and see if those old cell phones have cash value – many of them do, and we’re happy to buy them.”

CellForCash.com pays anywhere from a few dollars to more than $100 for old cell phones. It then re-markets them around the world. Phones that are not re-marketable for any reason are disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.

According to Mosieur his company recycles over 200 tons of electronic waste every year. While the company focuses on cell phones, they also recycle the batteries and chargers that often accompany cell phone shipments.

“Future cell phone sales do create a dilemma about what do with old discarded phones, especially since most people already have a few stockpiled” Mosieur said. “But as more consumers learn about recycling solutions like CellForCash.com, they’ll realize there is an immediate payoff for recycling; cash today and a healthy environment in the future.”

Besides CellForCash.com, RMS operates a number of other web sites, including http://www.WirelessFundraiser.com, which provides cash to non-profit organizations that collect and send in old cell phones; http://www.RecycleForUS.com, an environmental initiative that helps companies, government agencies, other groups and individuals collect and recycle old cell phones; and http://www.911CellPhoneBank.com, which donates about 1,000 cell phones every month to law enforcement and other agencies who distribute them to victims of abuse and the elderly for use as 911 emergency phones.
