The popular ABC drama Desperate Housewives has created a stir in the usually calm baby boutique world by featuring a designer baby blanket when Eva Longoria's character attempts to adopt a baby. All of a sudden, baby boutiques are scrambling as their customers demand "baby Lily's blanket," a pink chenille beauty from Little Giraffe.
Recently, the popular ABC drama Desperate Housewives has created a stir in the usually calm baby boutique world by featuring a designer baby blanket made by Little Giraffe (www.littlegiraffe.com) when Eva Longoria's character Gabi attempts to adopt a baby. All of a sudden, baby boutiques are scrambling as their customers demand "baby Lily's blanket."
Even though Gabi's stint as a mother ended several episodes later when Lily's birth mother reclaimed her, the ripple effects of Lily's appearance on Wisteria Lane are still being felt in baby boutiques around the country.
Jennifer Zankan, of Jeneration PR, the company that manages Little Giraffe's publicity, told us that the company’s signature blanket "has become Hollywood's hottest baby product. We get calls from people like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes asking us to send them blankets."
Zankan also stated that Little Giraffe has been contacted recently by film and television studios, asking for products to use on sets and in dressing rooms. "The O.C. has called us twice now," she said, "and one of the O.C.'s actresses just asked to take one of our robes home with her after the shoot."
All the buzz in Hollywood is apparently getting out onto Main Street, where celebrity-endorsed designer products like Little Giraffe are more popular than ever. Cundy Bryson, one of the owners of Sleepytime Store, a baby boutique based in Atlanta that offers the Little Giraffe line, stated that purchases of Little Giraffe baby blankets rose dramatically in April, and she puts the rise down to Lily's appearance in the super-snuggly, pink Little Giraffe blanket on Desperate Housewives. "I don't watch the show every week," she stated, "so I was confused at first when my customers asked me about the blanket they saw on Desperate Housewives. But when they described it, I recognized which one they meant."
According to Bryson, her online store saw a “huge” increase in Little Giraffe blanket orders in April after the baby Lily episodes of Desperate Housewives aired, and that trend has continued.
She went on to note that earlier this year sales of Little Giraffe blankets increased when it was publicized that stars like Angelina Jolie and Katie Holmes used Little Giraffe blankets, "but the Desperate Housewives appearance had the biggest impact on us by far."
This trend shows no signs of slackening. According to Zankan, Little Giraffe is going to be featured in People magazine's upcoming baby issue. If Hollywood has anything to do with it, those baby boutiques better get ready for even bigger crowds.
