Choosing between a standard notebook computer and a tablet PC can be a daunting decision to make. If the user is looking to do most of their work sitting at a desk or in an area where wireless access is available the notebook is of course the way to go. On the other hand if you are planning to be able to log in to Google? while camping atop Mount Everest then a Tablet style PC with full time GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) services is just the ticket for you. Now granted most of us will not be climbing mountain peaks anytime soon but the mobile uses for the Tablet PC for the time being seem to be limitless. The average notebook computer presently is considered to be lighter than a standard tablet pc system but pioneering companies like Tablet Kiosk?,Acer? and other tablet pc manufacturers and custom integrators are building lighter tablet PCs to specification as we speak so that perception could change rather quickly. When deciding between a notebook computer and a tablet pc you should ask yourself the following:
. Will I need to be accessing the internet from remote locations where wireless or wifi access is or may be impossible? . Will I be carrying my device long distances through rugged terrain or between buildings? . Will I need to be accepting or signing documents on site using digital signatures? . Will I be creating documents using freehand?
If you answered yes to any or all of the questions above it is possible that a tablet style personal computer system is for you. The medical,legal and education fields will soon be clamoring for tablet pcs based upon its immediate beneficial impact on those industries. The features, benefits and potential future uses of the tablet pc are extraordinary but the notebook pc is still a viable contender simply because of the lower price point of a typical unit. The tablet pc prices themselves have dropped significantly in the past few years making them affordable as well. Either way you go, whether it is a tablet pc or notebook, going mobile is the way to go. As the prices for tablet PCs continue to fall look for them to become as numerous and affordable as the notebook pc is today very soon with far more benefits to the mobile user.
