The LiveCargo Outlook Plug-in leverages the familiar user interface of Outlook while reducing the load and inefficiencies inherent with standard email.
LiveCargo combines patent-pending file management and VoIP collaboration technology, remote storage, message notification and file encryption to let people use the Internet and other wireless networks to access, store and collaborate on electronic information with any desktop, mobile computing or communications device.
With the LiveCargo Outlook Plug-In, the user interface for email is unchanged, giving people the ability to send an email with attachments through LiveCargo while enabling them to continue working in a familiar environment.
How it works: After using Outlook to create an email and add attachments of any size, the user simply clicks "Send." With the LiveCargo plug-in, a new option is then presented which gives the sender the opportunity to issue the email through LiveCargo. The recipient receives an email notification that a "package" is waiting at LiveCargo along with a retrieval link within the body of the email. By clicking the link, the file(s) are downloaded to the user’s PC. The recipient does not need a LiveCargo account to receive the message.
"Traditionally, people who try to manage documents and media files using email have found that email attachments containing large files are rejected and returned by email servers. FTP is cumbersome to many users and often requires intervention by IT staff," said Doug Young, CEO of LiveCargo. "We’re striving to reduce the inefficiency and problems associated with managing files through email which is increasingly becoming a problem for the mobile workforce."
Storage, security benefits
The LiveCargo Outlook Plug-in addresses the storage concerns of many companies, particularly those associated with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance which requires companies to back-up information for multiple years. With LiveCargo, the number of copies generated from an emailed file is greatly reduced and the storage burden greatly lessened.
Sending files through LiveCargo is more secure than email due to LiveCargo’s built-in encryption. With the LiveCargo Outlook Plug-in, users now have three options for sending attachments – send via standard email, send only those attachments over a certain size via LiveCargo, or send all attachments through LiveCargo.
