A summer vacation or weekend getaway would be a lot more relaxing if it didn’t take hours of mouse time and endless phone calls to find. Vacationers wanted to know how to find owner operated cabins, vacation homes, cottages and condos without actually driving up a country road looking for a ‘vacancy’ sign.
Michigan resident, Andy McMahon spent many summers with his family in Oscoda Michigan. Yet, when it came to finding a summer cottage rental to share with friends, the choices were dreadfully limited. "I was living in a state which had over 2,000 miles of shoreline around the largest body of fresh water in the world; yet could not find an appropriate rental property for a vacation. Many owner-operated properties have no advertising at all," he stated.
"If you’ve driven any portion of the Michigan coast line, you’ll find thousands of cabins and cottages to rent. But who wants to drive and hope to find a nice place to say. Finding that charming, owner operated property, on the waterfront, perhaps with a fireplace—the kind where the tin ‘Vacancy’ sign is swinging on a post by the side of the road—was impossible.
McMahon enlisted a partner and fellow Michigan resident, Michael Purdy, to help him build a vacation search website for owner operated businesses that don’t have a million dollar advertising budget; the kind you’d drive by along a country road and would love to spend a day or week at. They called the business UfindVacations.com, and made it easy enough to navigate that two clicks will direct you to a charming and unique vacation property in your chosen area.
UfindVacations.com’s service is free for individuals to use. Basic listings for the rental owners are also free and include the property address, a good size photo, a description of the property and up to 14 property feature icons. More advanced advertising features are available and the site’s advertising rates are very competitive—closest to the lowest in the industry at just $48 per year or less.
