New York Times bestselling author David Morrell received the celebrated Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel of 2005 for his dark-suspense thriller, Creepers (CDS Books), at the 19th Bram Stoker Awards Weekend, hosted by the Horror Writer’s Association. This is Morrell’s first Stoker Award for Best Novel. The novel follows a group of urban explorers or "creepers" as they infiltrate the once elegant, long-abandoned Paragon Hotel. But they quickly discover that some buildings are abandoned for a reason.
The Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement are named for the author of Dracula. The award is an eight-inch replica of a haunted house, complete with tentacles and gargoyles. The door of the house opens to reveal a brass plaque engraved with the winning work and author.
Past winners of the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel include Stephen King, Peter Straub, Joyce Carol Oates, and Thomas Harris, for The Silence of the Lambs.
Considered the father of the modern high-action thriller, David Morrell is the award-winning author of First Blood, the novel in which Rambo was created. He holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from the Pennsylvania State University and taught in the English department at the University of Iowa.
