Press Release:

New York Times bestselling author David Morrell received the celebrated Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel of 2005 for his dark-suspense thriller, Creepers (CDS Books), at the 19th Bram Stoker Awards Weekend, hosted by the Horror Writer’s Association. This is Morrell’s first Stoker Award for Best Novel.

Orange is for Anguish, Blue for Insanity
He received two prior Stoker Awards, both in the Long Fiction category, for "The Beautiful Uncut Hair of Graves" (1992) and "Orange is for Anguish, Blue for Insanity" (1989), as well as numerous nominations.
"I am thrilled for David and his Stoker award," said Morrell’s agent, Jane Dystel. "He’s a wonderful writer and an important contributor to the horror genre."

Hailed by Stephen King as "chilling and hypnotically readable," Creepers was a New York Times bestseller. Named one of the ten best thrillers of 2005 by the Chicago Tribune and one of the top five thrillers by the Providence Journal, Creepers will be released in paperback in October of this year.

The novel follows a group of urban explorers or "creepers" as they infiltrate the once elegant, long-abandoned Paragon Hotel. But they quickly discover that some buildings are abandoned for a reason.
The Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement are named for the author of Dracula. The award is an eight-inch replica of a haunted house, complete with tentacles and gargoyles. The door of the house opens to reveal a brass plaque engraved with the winning work and author.
Past winners of the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel include Stephen King, Peter Straub, Joyce Carol Oates, and Thomas Harris, for The Silence of the Lambs.

Considered the father of the modern high-action thriller, David Morrell is the award-winning author of First Blood, the novel in which Rambo was created. He holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from the Pennsylvania State University and taught in the English department at the University of Iowa. "The mild-mannered professor with the bloody minded visions," as one reviewer called him, Morrell is the author of 28 books, many of them bestsellers. With more than eighteen million copies of his books in print, his fiction has been translated into 26 languages.

Morrell’s next novel, a high-tech adventure thriller entitled Scavenger, is scheduled for publication in spring 2007 (CDS Books). Visit him at www.davidmorrell.net. Visit Creepers at www.theparagonhotel.com.
