Today’s bride is adding a special touch to her wedding day by giving a donation on behalf of her wedding guests to the American Diabetes Association, in lieu of traditional wedding favors.
While wedding favors are often easily forgotten, a tax-deductible donation to the ADA is a meaningful and memorable way to celebrate the ones you love.
Brian McGarry and his wife were thrilled to donate to a cause that was so close to their hearts, "Unfortunately diabetes runs in my wife's family so we didn't hesitate when deciding we wanted to mark this special occasion with a donation to the American Diabetes Association," said McGarry.
Megan Sullivan, another Wedding Favors participant, wanted to honor her stepdaughter, who has diabetes: "We have received many wedding favors over the years and if we remember to take them home from the wedding, we often forget them in the car, or they go in a drawer never to be seen again. This way we knew our gift would go to something important."
Couples who choose to support the American Diabetes Association Wedding Favors Program contribute just a few dollars on each guest’s behalf and receive personalized donation announcements -- including table tent cards, scrolls, or bookmarks -- to display on their wedding tables. Couples may also order invitation donation cards requesting that guests make a donation to fight diabetes.
Brides and grooms give their donation and order announcements online at www.diabetes.org/wedding, and receive personalized announcements within 7-10 days.
"Our guests were thrilled to see that we didn't spend our money on typical wedding favors such as candles or chocolates, rather on something that was very important to us. Needless to say, those in our family with diabetes were very touched to see the announcements when they entered our wedding reception," said McGarry.
