Rather than selecting Linux, with open-source code, AdvancedMD chose an AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript and XML) platform. "One reason we never looked seriously at Linux is because of its tool set," said Ken Meyers, AdvancedMD COO. "The tools provided in the Windows platform are a world apart from what you can get with Linux."
The Microsoft case study also highlights AdvancedMD's strong growth over the past six years. AdvancedMD currently services more than 4,500 healthcare providers and billing services with 10,000 users, collectively managing more than five million patients nationwide. AdvancedMD's success demonstrates the rising trend of software as a service (SAAS). The largest benefit of AdvancedMD software and SAAS in general is return on investment. Microsoft stated, "Those benefits are passed on to customers in the form of lower costs, the elimination of technical complexity and service availability."
