Friends By Faith has been in development for quite a while and is nearing its Grand Opening currently scheduled for mid September. The website was recently opened to select members of the southern gospel community and was being spread only by word of mouth. The acceptance of the website by those who have already joined has been outstanding. One awesome feature of Friends By Faith is a gospel music and Christian resource wiki. The wiki is still under development (is any wiki ever finished?) and the primary area of development has been the southern gospel music pages.
The wiki currently has nearly 500 Southern Gospel artists and groups already published with more being added every day. The wiki is owned and edited by the Friends By Faith website users, but is open to the general public whether they choose to take advantage of Friends By Faiths community services or not. The Friends By Faith wiki can be edited by any registered user. No application to be a contributing editor is necessary. Articles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution - Share Alike License, unless specified otherwise, because this is a community based effort. The Friends By Faith wiki is not an individual effort, but a community based, collaboratively authored resource to be freely shared as a both a reference and an enjoyable resource available for all to use as they see fit.
The Friends By Faith main website is a Christian social networking site that features capabilities very similar to those at MySpace, but without the threats and non-Christian based atmosphere that pervades MySpace. This Christian friends community has also been received very well. Friends By Faith offers completely customizable profile pages including video, audio, pictures, comments and friends list. While there you can join chat or start a private chat, use the FBF instant messenger (also publically or private), create your own customizable blog, and many more fun and useful features are available.
Artists and/or groups registering at Friends By Faith have been instrumental in steering development efforts to accomodate their specific needs and desires. An artist or group can post their tour schedule as a public event and their schedule is not only displayed on their custom profile page, but is searchable by distance to help connect fans with concerts events within their acceptable driving distance. Friends By Faith was designed from the ground up to be artist/group friendly and to help promote the artists and connect them with their fan base, all within the relatively safe atmosphere of a Christian community owned and monitored web based service. Artists have complete control over their public profile page and can update their wiki pages to add new information at any time or correct any errors.
