Early, Wednesday afternoon, Amber Gristak, 23, popular actress and author of ?O.F.O.N: String of Consciousness,? was notified, by a staff member, at her bank, that her account may be in jeopardy due to computer hackers. The staff member, at the bank, explained that there had been a major security breach at the parent company of Marshalls & TJ Max. Hackers had broken into the company computer and were able to access and obtain information about all credit cards, debit cards and check used at their stores. Though the situation was originally found and reported in December 2006 they are only in the early stages of notifying all known victims. This could impact 4 million card holders all over the country.
Gristak remained calm throughout the situation. The staff member explained that debit card had already been voided and she would be able to apply for another card at a later date. To be safe, the bank recommended the account be closed down. The bank feels it is safe for Gristak to open another account at the same institution.
By Wednesday evening, Gristak realized that she had shopped at the Zanesville, Ohio location of T.J Max multiple times, during the holiday season. She realized that she had used a total of two debit cards and one credit card on purchases ranging from gifts for two children from children services to office supplies, gifts for employees, colleagues, friends and family members as well as an array of other various items. Gristak immediately closed the other accounts that may be affected.
