Tele Atlas, a leading global provider of digital map data and other geographic content, is developing impressive demonstrations of its innovative 3D maps in cooperation with 3DVU, a specialist in converting digital data into 3D images.
The latest innovations from Tele Atlas are taking digital map data, as used in car navigation systems, a dramatic step forward with 3D representations for example of city maps. Tele Atlas is planning to release 3D landmarks of Berlin, Barcelona, Athens and Bern. They are the first in a series of 20 cities to be rolled out by Tele Atlas, with several more to come in 2005.
“We have developed a unique technology that streams 3D imagery to any digital device,” explains Isaac Levanon, Chairman and CEO of 3DVU. “Our Visual Map™ is the only technology that enables in-car navigation systems, PDAs, personal navigation devices, mobile handsets and PCs to display realistic, 3D satellite and aerial imagery along with elevation data, and mapping data, such as points of interest, route information and 3D buildings. 3DVU is proud to strategically align with Tele Atlas.”
Jack Reinelt, Managing Director and COO Tele Atlas Europe: “The specialist software from 3DVU is helping Tele Atlas to run impressive demonstrations of the ways in which the 3D map data can be displayed as a 3D virtual representation of the real world outside the vehicle. Our partners will see the potential for a 3D image on the navigation screen. It will make driving around unknown urban areas even easier. Instantly recognizable representations of nearby buildings and landmarks will make orientation and route finding virtually instinctive. We are confident these demonstrations will create a significant level of interest in the potential of Tele Atlas 3D digital map data.”

About 3DVU
3DVU was established in the year 2000 to revolutionize the way our world is viewed, navigated and interacted with. The vision remains to allow users to view the source of mapping – imagery. 3DVU has developed a unique technology that streams 3D imagery to any digital device, anywhere. Using Visual Map™, satellite and aerial imagery, as well as mapping data, such as point of interest, 3D buildings and route information, can now be streamed over limited-bandwidth communications with realistic 3D views and smooth maneuverability. The technology has been available in car navigation systems since 2002. The company is operating in the Far East, Europe and the USA and strategically aligned with carmakers, navigation systems and mobile devices developers, major satellite and aerial image-sensing entities, mapping and GIS data providers.
