In an unprecedented move by health advocates to provide a viable alternative to the world-wide starvation, disease and death which the Codex Alimentarius Vitamin and Mineral Guideline (VMG) would cause, a consortium of health freedom advocates has revised the Codex VMG so that it embodies the pro-health freedom of nutrient access Americans enjoy. The Revised VMG (R-VMG)will be presented to all Codex member countries to replace the VMG ratified by Codex in Rome (7/4/05) so they can avoid crushing WTO trade sanctions while protecting the health of their people. International health and food organizations (WHO/FAO) estimate the Codex VMG, which institutionalizes under-nutrition, will result in billions of preventable deaths since nutrients are classified as toxins and restricted to miniscule doses by the VMG.

Press Release:

The Revised Vitamin and Mineral Guideline (R-VMG), submitted today by the Natural Solutions Foundation, http://www.heathfreedomUSA.org, to the US Codex Office, FDA and other US Government officials, offers an alternative to the deadly Codex Vitamin and Mineral Guideline (C-VMG) ratified by the Codex Alimentarius Commission with exuberant US support at its 28th meeting (Rome, July 4, 2005). Since the C-VMG treats nutrients as toxins (and stipulates the use of Risk Assessment [toxicology to determine maximum permitted dosages which designed to have no impact on even the most sensitive humans) the World Health Organization and Food and Agricultural Organization (WHO/FAO) estimate the resulting global under-nutrition will result in hundreds of millions to billions of preventable deaths when Codex goes into global implementation on December 31, 2009.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) decides trade disputes by relying on Codex standards so countries whose domestic laws do not comply with Codex standards (like the US) risk billions of dollars of trade sanctions. The R-VMG offers countries an alternative to complying with the pro-illness C-VMG since by adopting the R-VMG, countries can protect the health of their people and still be Codex compliant. American's access to high potency supplements, guaranteed by US law, puts the US in grave danger of huge trade sanctions since all Codex member nations are being urged to adopt Codex standards as their domestic laws. Under the C-VMG, high potency nutrients make the US vulnerable to these economic punishments by the WTO. The R-VMG was created to protect US nutrient access while ensuring Codex compliance by adopting it.

The R-VMG was presented to the US Government by the Natural Solutions Foundation, http://www.HealthFreedomUSA.org, today as part of its Citizen's Petition which challenges US Codex Policy favoring "harmonization" with Codex standards although they violate current US laws and will result in large, and totally preventable, increases in suffering and deaths from the entire range of chronic degenerative diseases. It provides a viable alternative to the C-VMG because the R-VMG is a Codex compliant document which would protect the US in the WTO Dispute Resolution process and protect our dietary supplement access. The C-VMG specially violates the US Dietary Supplements Health and Education Act (DSHEA 1994) classifying nutrients as foods which, as such, may have no upper limit set upon them. C-VMG, by contrast, treats nutrients as toxins whose upper limits, set by Risk Assessment, must be so low that they have no discernable impact on even the most sensitive human.

The R-VMG also allows the US to promulgate its pro-health nutrient access tradition to the rest of the world instead of being dragged down to a pro-illness policy by the irrational classification of nutrients as toxins by the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (headed by Dr. Rolf Grossklaus who, perhaps not coincidentally, is the Chairman of the Board of a German for-profit Risk Assessment company, BfR, http://tinyurl.com/c8fk7). DSHEA is currently under significant legislative attack,http://www.HealthFreedomUSA.org/bills,to "clear the decks" for C-VMG. At the same time, US adoption of the R-VMG removes the economic threat of WTO trade sanctions which would punish the US for our health freedom and use of nutrients to prevent degenerative health challenges like cancer, asthma, cardiovascular disease/stroke, diabetes, pneumonia, flu and a host of other conditions conclusively shown to result from chronic under nutrition and its subsequent immune compromise.

Public support of R-VMG adoption and the Citizen's Petition, to which it is attached, is the crucial component in its adoption. The Natural Solutions Foundation Citizen's Petition is a legal challenge to US Codex policy and allows individuals to join in: people who value their nutrient access are urged to visit the Natural Solutions Foundation and add their support, http://www.healthfreedomusa.org/action/step3.shtml, to this innovative option to protect 1. Supplement access here in the US, 2. WTO punishment through trade sanctions against the US for maintaining health freedom and 3. World health through world leadership in pro-health policy.
