PROVIDENCE, RI – Santa Mamba announces the release of their new album titled Senseo; the album release party is on for Friday, August 8, 2008 at the Newport Blues Café, Newport, RI. Senseo follows Santa Mamba’s Saint and Sinners album that was released back in 2006.
Senseo is Santa Mamba’s most definitive album yet, expertly recorded and mixed by Rob Pemberton, formerly of Sound Station 7 in Providence, RI. With the release of Senseo also comes the band’s new image; complete with a new logo and website – these are symbols of a new beginning for Santa Mamba…symbols of triumph after a year full struggle, setbacks and numerous unexpected obstacles.
Santa Mamba is a complex fusing of musical styles and personalities - elements of Rock, salsa, reggaeton, funk, rap, jazz, rhumba, son, merengue, bachata, disco, reggae and bolero can be heard in their music, but they are best described through the unique offerings each member brings to the band.
Gio Murillo, lead vocalist, is an icon and visionary whose voice is strikingly unique in the way it oscillates between the salsa troubadour and the rocker. On lead guitar is John Medeiros, whose expressive approach to the instrument ranges from flamenco finger-style to Hendrixian wailing. Candido Mendoza is a deeply-feeling drummer who has been appropriately described as blending “equal parts John Bonham and Tito Puente.” Keyboardist Aaron Wade brings sophistication to the mix, coloring the band’s flavor with a touch of jazz and classical through his schooled understanding of the piano. Nick Wade looks like hes in the wrong band, but he has found an unprecedented way to make it seem like slap-punk-funk bass and Latin music always belonged together, bringing an attitude and energy that have become hallmarks of the Santa Mamba live performance. And Gary Mendoza embodies both the power and the party with a presence behind the congas that is both commanding and fun.
Santa Mamba, established in 2005, evolved naturally from Planet Groove, a RI-based genre-defying sonic experiment that was started in 1994 by Ajay Coletta, John Medeiros, and Leith MacArthur. If you would like to know more about Santa Mamba, please visit Santa Mamba’s website at www.santamamba.com.
