Why is Human Communication Falling On Deaf Ears?

Eugene, OR. October 7, 2008 - "To Be Or Not To Be," that is the question that is being asked again. Why is it that human communication is beginning to fail and potentially cause a breakdown of the social fabric of the world economy?

Jed Reay has spent his entire career studying the effects of human communication, and he has found that far too many times human interaction is used superficially, and that social and political issues bear pressure on what we say and how we say it.

Reay is quoted as saying that, "We have come to a point in our everyday business communications where we are not paying attention to what we are saying, that we are just chattering for the sake of communication." Reay goes on to say that, "We must understand the dynamics of our business communication and how what we say affects our prospects, customers, employees, and business partners."

Reay felt so strongly about this issue that he compiled a whos who list of success entrepreneurs from the online and offline world and interviewed them for his current book, "Why Cant We Say What We Mean." In a recent interview about his book, Reay was quoted as saying:

"The reason I did this is because over the past 5-7 years Ive noticed a shift amongst our society AND amongst my business colleagues that has troubled me. Have you ever gotten an email, a voice mail, been in a live telephone conversation or a live face-to-face conversation with someone, and afterwards you got the feeling that you had just been slimed by the ghost buster gun? You have no idea if you were understood or if your message was even delivered. Have you had that conversation with someone and you know they did not hear a word you said, but you felt that all they were concerned with was their own agenda?"

These are just a few of the many issues that Reay addresses with the likes of Stephen Pierce, Larry Benet, Dr. Fran Harris, and others.

Last month, Reay was interviewed about his book by radio host Ryan Celestain on his show, Dare to Dream. Celestain co-hosts with Greg Norman, and together they offer listeners viewpoints for success in life as well as in business. Reay is scheduled to do another radio interview with South Floridas voice of reason, Kandee G. on 1360 WKAT.
