After the enormous success of last year’s inaugural event, Dubai Golf Holidays + Events again hosted The Footballers Golf Classic from 5th – 12th November. The tournament, conceived by ex-Arsenal and Ireland favourite Terry Mancini, Sports Events Director at UK based Barwell Leisure, brought together amateur golfers and footballing professionals for this golf trip.
Thirteen teams, who all stayed at the Grand Hyatt Dubai, took part in the week-long golf vacation, which included a practice round on The Majlis course at Emirates Golf Club, followed by three tournament rounds, two at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and one at Al Badia Golf Resort. Playing alongside some of the UK’s footballing greats including, Francis Lee, Andy Gray, Trevor Cherry, World Cup winner Alan Ball and ‘Celebrity Love Island’ star Lee Sharpe, the UK teams experienced a week to remember!
Pat Jennings, one of the all time great goalkeepers and an icon for both Tottenham and Arsenal, played some exceptional golf over the three competition rounds to win the title. UEFA Cup winner and past winner of the Footballer’s Golf Classic events in Spain and Dubai, Russell Osman, came second, with Tony Dorigo, who played for Aston Villa, Chelsea and Leeds, in third place.

I look forward to bringing an even bigger Footballers Golf Classic back to Dubai again in November 2006 and as far as I’m concerned, I’d like to see the event here for as many years as we’re allowed to do it.”
