Nashville, TN?Nashville?s online spaces are getting ready to turn into offline faces this December, thanks to a recently relocated restaurant manager who needed some new ?friends?.
The idea for the first offline event came to Kim West, a member of the popular social site MySpace.com, which allows it?s more than 3000 Nashville users to share photos, journals, and interests in order to create an online network of ?friends?. After relocating for employment purposes knowing no one here, going out to several Nashville nightspots, and being approached in person by some of her online friends, she began to ponder a way to turn her online connections into real ones. ?Have you ever met someone who didn?t want a new friend?? West said, ?I believe a group that would be meeting offline, allowing us to cultivate these friendships, will be a welcomed addition to the Music City?
That?s when the ?Nashville Myspace Meetup Group? was formed. The group meets on the second Saturday of every month at a location in Nashville chosen by members of the group, via poll their online site. They meet for drinks, conversation, great music, and to find out simply if their ?friends? are as cool offline as they seem online. Ages for the group range from 21-55 with members from professions ranging anywhere from tattoo artists to investment bankers. In just two weeks, the group has grown to over fifty members, making it the largest group Myspace Meetup group in the country!! ?There will never a dull moment at any event? says West.
There is no set format, or fees charged by the group to attend these events. Participants must be members of myspace.com, and sign up ahead of time via the group?s website in order for attendance purposes. The next ?Nashville Myspace Meetup? will be held Saturday, Dec. 10th at the Mercy Lounge as part of ?National Myspace Meetup Day,? where groups of ?Myspacers? will be meeting all over the country in places such as Los Angeles, San Diego, and New York to bring their online personalities out of cyberspace for a night.
