Minneapolis, MN (Mar 8, 2001): J. River, who last week offered record labels $3 billion for music content, today announced a campaign to bring together 3 million subscribers for a legitimate Napster-like music delivery service. A free trial of the service will be offered from a new Web site called AfterNap.com. To be launched this spring, the service will target music fans who want access to music, and who are willing to pay a reasonable price for it. It will launch when approved by the labels, but the first 3 million individuals to sign up will receive a free trial. J. River invites participation of all music fans who agree with the AfterNap goals--easily obtainable, quality music at a reasonable price. Sign-up forms are at www.AfterNap.comJ. River is adding a user interface similar to the Napster interface to its popular MEDIA JUKEBOX software player. Peer-to-peer networking and streaming capabilities are already built into the player, and the company has existing server technology to manage high-volume music content.A delivery date of April 10 has been set for the new system. Web cams at AfterNap.com are recording the cloning process. Music fans can read the daily developers` log, submit ideas and comment on implementation decisions."There is a free music crowd that won`t ever pay for streaming or downloaded music, and we are not targeting this group," said Steve West, VP of Sales. "There is also a significant community that is willing to pay for easy access to quality music. We intend to mobilize this group and show the labels that these customers can`t be ignored."Napster has burned a few bridges with the labels with its continued copyright infringement. J. River believes that the fans are loyal to the music, and not to Napster. "We are building a bridge between music fans and the labels," said John Norris, COO. "Music fans currently have no legal way to get the music they want, and each month the music industry loses at least $100 million in revenue. Our goal is to build our list of 3 million subscribers and a system they want. We`re asking for the support of the labels to make this happen."For more information visit www.AfterNap.comJ.
